DOES YOUR TECHNOLOGY OWN YOU?

Recently I attended a workshop given by my nephew at a nearby church on "Digital Integrity."  He covered a lot of topics in a short amount of time, but one point that really struck me was his desire for the church and himself personally to quit worrying about being "relevant" in our world today.  His feeling was that we have tried so hard to be relevant to others, to reach them, that we have watered down the gospel in the process.  Christians have blended into the world so well that we don't look much different than our unchurched neighbors.  I can certainly relate this concept to fashion, our possessions, and our free time.  But for some reason I had not thought about it in terms of our technology.  He referred to our use of phones and how it sometimes rules our lives.  So true!  Do you let your email or phone messages determine what you will do next?  Are you constantly thinking of your next Instagram or Facebook post?  (Or blog, for me)  Do we have to have the latest technology to keep up with the Joneses?

"Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect." Romans 12:2

It's something we all need to examine in our own lives...and I'm thankful to know that the younger generation is pondering these things!

I have been leaving my phone inside while at the beach, and I LOVE it! It's a nice break to be off it for a while, although I probably won't have a ton of pictures from the week since I'm not carrying it around, but I'm okay with that too.....although I'm pretty much holding Drew under the umbrella, so probably not many pictures anyway!
