ALL THE PLANNING IN THE WORLD WON'T HELP IF YOU DON'T HAVE A PASSPORT...

This morning was rolling along pretty well, until my dear husband brought our passports into the kitchen.

ME: Watcha doin? Makin copies of our passports?

HIM: No...look at your passport...

ME: ?

ME: What?!?!? It expired in APRIL?!?!?

HIM: Not good if we're going to Italy in July...

Me, the planner of the family, the one who is constantly on Tripadvisor's website, calculating ticket costs, noting opening times of museums, the one watching trip videos and reading Rick Steves books, finding out where the hidden gems are...

FORGOT TO CHECK MY PASSPORT!!!!

So, it wounded my frugal, coupon loving heart to do it, but $177.68 later, my new passport pictures and application are Express mailed to Philadelphia. Supposed to be here in 2-3 weeks. Hopefully 2 weeks!!!

I decided I had better renew my Driver's license that expires the end of this month, too. I've heard horror stories about people who have let theirs expire. Wouldn't you know I wrote my LAST CHECK for the passport fee and DIDN'T HAVE THE CASH to renew my license?!?!?! What do you mean you don't take credit cards? Thankfully a friend of mine was in the tag agency at the same time and bailed me out.

WHAT A DAY!!!

Oh Robin, at least you guys discovered it before you were about to leave! You are definitely right on renewing the driver's license in time...I have heard those same horror stories. And they don't mail notices anymore.

We'll keep our fingers crossed that your passport gets back in time. Sorry for the big cost.

I've heard bad stories about passports, too. Thankfully you are getting it so quickly and hopefully on time. I'm glad you checked your DL. A few weeks ago a 70 yr old woman was having to re-take her test. I felt so sorry for her!

I'm glad you got it sent off in time! On a side note...are you a Rick Steeves fan? He does have great videos but I'm for the Frommer's Travel books. Unfortunately I don't have one for Italy or I would loan it to you! Can't wait to hear about your trip!

Oh my goodness! I'm glad you got it all worked out! I just read your blog over the phone to my mom... we know all to well these sorts of situations (I have to apply for the Birth Abroad birth certificate for the new baby and renew 3 passports this summer, plus get one for the baby!) My mom, too, stays on top of all the travel info, makes big fat notebooks of important numbers and iteneraries, and reads Rick Steves!
Anyway, you're right, WHAT A DAY!

Praying that your passport comes back in time. I am so glad you are getting to go to Italy while the kids are there. What a blessing! Hug my son for me. I miss him!
