I made THIS the other night, and thought I would eat it as a side dish, or salad. But they were so DELICIOUS I put them right on my burger! HEAVEN ON A BUN. If you are a tomato lover or balsamic vinegar lover, you gotta try it!
Just got to get some home grown tomatoes now. We were going to plant some, then didn't get it done, now glad we didn't since it's been so hot. I'm sure they would have died.
Oh man! That sounds so fabulous! It's just killing me that we've had a grand total of about 10 tomatoes off of 9 plants so far! Two plants are now dead (spider mites) and two more are on their way out (same reason). Your uncle's right. When daytime temps are above about 90 degrees and night doesn't fall below about mid-70's, the plants may bloom but the pollen gets fried and so no fruit. Just can't believe this weather. I often try to close my eyes and dream of Colorado (home state -- so jealous of your daughter right now) but it doesn't really work. But yes, that recipe is a definite must try.
Somehow when I clicked to see what you made (the tomatoes), it clicked over to this incredible sounding pasta salad (Spicy Pasta Salad with Smoked Gouda, Tomatoes, and Basil) that I may have to try. I am so in a rut lately with cooking, but there are amazing recipes out there to try if I would take the time to look! But did the tomatoes seriously take an entire cup of canola oil?
My tomatoes are barely producing now either, but I just keep watering them and hope when it cools down they'll come back. If they survive! I love this salad, though! Sherry

My farmer uncle says they don't bloom in the heat, so that's what I'm blaming my fruitless plants on...I had to buy mine!

well, I quartered the recipe, since I just wanted to test it, but I guess it does call for 1 c. oil! You could trim it down, I'm sure!
You cook great food. Yet I remind you that I'm a poor single girl. HA! I'm kidding.
I could eat that for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Yum.
