SOME EXPECTED AND UNEXPECTED EVENTS...

Last Prom for our baby, and yes, he wore the green suit again!  Great Grandmother had no idea when she made those graduation suits so long ago that the green one would really have a long life!

Then the OKC marathon the next day...after several rain delays and our patience wearing thin, we decided to just scrap it and go eat at a trendy new place, Waffle Champion (the kids idea, of course)!

It was DELICIOUS!  Later of course, they started the race and I felt bad that we broke our tradition of running the relay race, but they got our donation and we got the t-shirt!

HOPES AND DREAMS FULFILLED...

At our son's college graduation day!  An ending for us, a completion of sorts, and a beginning for him!  We are beaming.

Add to that, a beautiful day with lovely weather and time spent together with our family and OC friends!  A Board member friend of ours gave the address and I loved his message, quoting Donald Miller's book and encouraging the graduates to "write their own story."  He also talked about living an adventurous life, seeing things in HD (seeing other's needs) and treasuring your faith, family and friends.  Good advice.  After the picture taking and celebrating, we ended the day with pizza and cards with our kids.  It was a day to remember.

These four started out together as roommates:
two from Edmond, two from Nashville.

Proud Gram (my mother)!

The graduates:  cousins, roommates, friends -
with Grandmother (the Hub's mom)!

Grandmother with her grandsons, twin sons and us wives...

Our Colorado girl flew in for the occasion!

A visit up to the Science building to take a picture with my Dad.
He would have been so proud!

Celebrating at Flint in downtown!

SEARCHING FOR SIGNIFICANCE...

As a SAHM the last 15 years, and that time ending soon since the baby graduates high school this May, I have been thinking, wondering and praying about what I've done and what comes next.  I'm scared and excited.  I'm happy and I'm sad.  I'm on an emotional roller coaster (and you are probably tired of hearing me talk about it)!  Have I done anything significant with my life?  I'm actually a little embarrassed to admit this.  In my head I know I'm God's special creation and what I have chosen to do in the prime of my life is a good work.  It's my focus that gets out of whack sometimes.  I admire working women that seem to have it all.  But I know most of them will admit they don't have it all or feel guilt over their parenting. Most people would probably admit they have some self-doubt in this part of their life.

Significance is definitely different to our heavenly Father.

Our minister touched on this in his message Sunday night, and I really was encouraged.  He pointed out something in Colossians 4 at the end of the letter that most people would overlook as just a list of salutations.  But what he brought out was that Tychicus and Epaphras are mentioned and given special attention.  One is a faithful helper and encourager; another prays fervently.  They both are unknowns to us otherwise, and they get a lot more mention than Luke and Mark! (Luke, the famous doctor/author, and Mark, Jesus' disciple and author)  In other words these non-famous New Testament Christians, that we know nothing about, are significant.  Being faithful, being a helper and encourager, and being fervent in prayer is worth spending your life on...

1 Peter 2:9-10

New Century Version (NCV)
But you are a chosen people, royal priests, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession. You were chosen to tell about the wonderful acts of God, who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.10 At one time you were not a people, but now you are God’s people. In the past you had never received mercy, but now you have received God’s mercy.

MY EASTER GOOFBALLS...

A new chapter in our lives...everyone is here for Easter, with the exception of our daughter!  For many years we participated in LTC and we would have to find another weekend for a family dinner and Easter egg hunt.  We are also almost out of the busy, busy teen years with so many activities that your head is spinning.  Those days are gone, but the egg hunts are not!

 Four out of five grandkids...

Love it that my mother still has our old faded Easter baskets!

Looking for car wash money in those eggs!

Wow, we are all getting old!

JUST ADD FOOD TRUCKS...

and call it a festival!  We went to a street festival Friday night, called Premiere Night on Film Row, in a section of Oklahoma City.  My son's art was displayed in one of the venues, along with some other senior students.  There were about 8 food trucks there, live music and other fun, so the place was hoppin!

His photography
Some of his video work looping behind us
We hit a bunch of different trucks, getting a bite from each one...

Cool seat!
With my mother and aunt

Lot of friends and family to support him!

It was a tasty night!

MY SON'S NEW PROJECT...

A 30 year old sports car...from this friend's Dad...one of his stipulations when my son bought it was that he not get killed in it or I would never forgive him.  Good advice...

The old blue truck you see is also his...I think he was born in the wrong time period.  He loves the old ones!  Hopefully he'll learn how to work on them and enjoy them.  Reminds me a little of my Dad.

WORDS WITH FRIENDS...

I don't normally get into games on Facebook, and I don't even really know what "words with friends" is - just thought it sounded like a good title for my post today.

A friend of mine from school wanted to do something before Easter to help her think about God.  She is going through the alphabet with a new letter each day, and asks people to comment with a word or phrase beginning with that letter on the Attributes of God.

I wasn't really expecting to gain anything from it except for her to know that I'm a believer, too!  But every day I think about the letter and start to brainstorm words.  I meditate about those words in my quiet time or my walk.  Sometimes the word I think of, someone else has already posted.  So I have to think even more...not a bad thing!

It's really been a great exercise.  Songs have come to mind that I haven't sung in a long time.  Meditating on a single word takes my mind on a journey of thoughts about God.  I enjoy reading others' comments and thinking about their descriptions of God.  Try something new sometime, you might just be surprised at the benefits!

Attributes of God! Today's letter is K.

MAKING CHALKBOARDS...

I am caught up in the CHALKBOARD CRAZE, and sold the idea as a theme for our Performing Arts Banquet here in about a month!  I was thinking we could have one on each table and write phrases about music and drama and our shows this year.  Unfortunately, the cute shaped chalkboards I wanted to use as part of the centerpiece on the tables are no longer in stock!

So I had to move to plan B...since we had already gotten this cute invitation designed, I was sticking with the Chalkboard theme.

I ended up on the Hobby Lobby 90% off aisle, where all strange decorative items go to die...and found these for $1.00 each!

I was able to pop off the letter on them, and after a little scraping, I thought they were ready to paint with chalkboard paint.  But no, the two different surfaces didn't paint the same.  I ended up cutting a rectange of contact paper and putting it on top to make it smooth.  Anyway, it worked, and I now have chalkboards!

This is the one I put contact paper on, before painting it.  I was so excited to write on it, I didn't "cure" it first.  So you can see some junk on the background of it.  I won't make that mistake again.

This was a metal sign that was pink and had a phrase about shopping on it.  Two coats of chalkboard paint later... I love it!

I may start chalkboard painting lots of other stuff!  Now if I can just learn some of those great lettering techniques, our banquet signs will be really cute.
